Scarly is a scullery maid at St Prowd's Academy in Out of Oz, and a friend made by Rain while she was in attendance at the school.

Rain first meets her in the attic which Scarly says used to be her room but has been ordered out so that Rain has somewhere to stay. She becomes close friends with Rain, who teaches her how to read. She later appears at the end of Out of Oz assisting Miss Ironish with the care of Princess Ozma.
