As If By Magic was replaced by Something Bad from Wicked on Broadway. Stephen Schwartz said that this Doctor Dillamond was closer to the resemblance to Gregory Maguire's version of the character. In this song, Doctor Dillamond, Fiyero, and Elphaba celebrating the success of their "essence of consciousness" experiment to show that Animals and humans are equal. Fiyero and Elphaba also discover their mutual attraction to another. The song was replaced when Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz decided that it was too hard to explain the whole "essence of consciousness" idea, so they came up the Doctor Dillamond who is a history teacher with the Animals losing their power of speech.
