The Cowardly Lion is a minor character in the Broadway musical, Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz.

History[]

The Cowardly Lion is only fleetingly seen, since the producers felt that both he and Dorothy, as the most recognizable and iconic characters from the film (other than the Witch), would take some of the spotlight away from the main story. In the scene with Dr. Nikidik, he is shown to be a small lion puppet in a cage, and Elphaba and Fiyero free him.

Later, during March Of The Witch Hunters, the Tin Man (formerly known as Boq) tries to get the Lion to tell about what the Witch did to him, tugging on his tail (the rest of his body remains unseen), and since the Lion is reluctant to come out, Boq sings a verse about how if Elphaba had let the Lion fight his own battles, he wouldn't be so cowardly.
