Governor Thropp is a supporting character in the film Wicked.

History[]

The Governor of Munchkinland is first seen preparing to leave home for work and telling his wife he will be thinking of her. Next, he is sitting next to his wife as she gives birth. To everyone's horror, the baby's skin is completely green. Horrified, the governor wants the baby taken out of their sight. The baby suddenly causes all the small objects in the room to fly up to the ceiling, frightening everyone more. The governor yells "take it away!" Dulcibear obliges and takes the newborn out of the room.

At a later point, the governor witnesses Elphaba magically throwing stones at some kids come to tease her and accuses her of the incident, which has made his younger daughter Nessarose. He rolls Nessarose away while leaving Elphaba to herself.

Years later, the governor and Elphaba accompany Nessarose to Shiz University. The governor gifts his young daughter his late wife's silver slippers. He then orders Elphaba to follow Nessarose to her dorm and make sure she is settled in. Elphaba, wanting to respect her sister's wishes to be independent, protests. The governor angrily barks at her to stop jabbering and just do it. When Elphaba is unexpectedly enrolled at Shiz University, she worries the governor would object, so Madame Morrible offers to speak to him immediately. The governor supposedly wanted Elphaba to live in the same dorm as Nessarose, but they are unable to honor his demand due to circumstances.

The governor is next seen at the train station seeing Elphaba off. He doesn't speak to her but talks with Nessa's new boyfriend Boq. He tells him that Nessarose is precious to him and tells him to be good to her.

At the end of the movie, the governor collapses from a heart attack upon hearing Elphaba's "theft of the Grimmerie and turning Oz against her".
