Irji Tigelaar, Crowned Prince of the Arjikis, is a book exclusive character, and is the oldest son of Fiyero and Sarima.
Biography[]
As the eldest child of Fiyero Tigelaar, he is technically first in line to be the next Chieftain of the Arjiki tribe of The Vinkus. However, he is soft and cries a lot and is bullied by his younger brother Manek, whom his aunts would prefer as Fiyero's successor. He and his sister Nor were close in order to be safe from Manek's bullying. Following Manek's death, he breaks it off and matures slightly, growing as a character both physically and mentally. Mentally, he becomes more strong-willed and open like his brother. Physically, he experiences puberty. Beyond that, not much is shown about Irji throughout the rest of the novel, aside from the occasional mention of his increasing holiness (toward the pagan/Lurline religion); this leads to him becoming the preferred candidate to the throne of the Arjiki.
He is later taken away by Commander Cherrystone's forces who work for the Wizard and is executed in Red Windmill with the Paraffin Necklace. The Wizard later says this to Elphaba in Wicked, "Oh now, he couldn't have lived, a direct descendant of Fiyero and future leader of the Arjikis." He lived for most of his life at Kiamo Ko with his mother, aunts, and father, and before his death, Liir, and Elphaba.
Trivia[]
- It is noted in one chapter that the sight of Liir's naked body being greased causes to 'feel very funny in his trousers', implying that he is homosexual.
