Jon M. Chu is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter who is directing Wicked: Part I[1] and Wicked: Part II.[2]
Biography[]
On February 2, 2021, it was announced that Chu would would serve as the director for the film based on musical.[3] After the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, filming for Part I resumed on January 24, 2024 and concluded on January 26, with Chu then revealing that the vocals of the actors during the musical numbers were recorded live on set.[4] On April 16, 2023 director Chu unveiled a first look at Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp and Ariana Grande as Glinda Upland.[5] Part of the film's marketing campaign included a visit to CinemaCon on April 10, 2024 to present new footage, which marked the first time the cast and crew appeared together in public to promote the film.
