Qhoyre is a city located on an isthmus made of shabby, genteel stuccoed buildings of red stone with high balconies, with its red-skinned inhabitants living in hot rooms invaded by wild insects and drinking the preferred native drink: tea.
At ground level, the administration buildings showcase an extravagance of devotional and profane softstone carvings. Above them, ornament was abandoned for louvers, weathered out of plumb, and perforated screens of raffia or stone. The hulks of Rice House, Ruby House, and the Bureau of Tariffs and Marsh Law, inscribed in both Qua'ati and Ozish, loom beside soapbone shops and tobacco shops that wobble on stilts.
Government House, a building in Qhoyre large enough to be pretentious and commanding to the populace, features spavined roofbeams to swale away bursts of the monsoons. However, in recent years the building has cracks in the plaster, mildewing whitewash, and a garden run to seed.
