Shiz is a major city and provincial capital of Gillikin, the northern province of Oz.

Often called the “Jewel of the province of Gillikin”, Shiz is one of the most populous and industrious cities in all of Oz, second only to the Emerald City. Other than being home to industry and banks, the city is also made up of colleges, clubs, manicured parks, canals, bistros, bathhouses, galleries, and theatres.
The city is led by the Lord-Mayor of Shiz, who holds quite a bit of Gillikin representation. The current Lord-Mayor is a stooped old man with a girth of belly. He gives long, rambling speeches that by the end no one has the slightest idea what he’s talking about.

The city is also home to Shiz University, where Elphaba Thropp, Nessarose Thropp, Glinda Upland, Boq, and Fiyero Tigelaar attended school together. The university is composed of a cluster of many different colleges such as Crage Hall, Briscoe Hall, Three Queens, and Ozma Towers. Madame Morrible was the infamous headmistress of Crage Hall. The well-heeled citizens of Shiz often took to attending public lectures at the university, notably at Three Queens or Briscoe College.
