The Thropp Sisters

Well, the family always was bright, and brightness, as you know, decays brilliantly. Madness is the most shining way.
— Nanny regarding the Thropp family, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

The Thropp Family is a prominent family hailing from Munchkinland, and the most powerful of the province's dozen family Eminences. From their seat at Colwen Grounds in the Nest Hardings region of Oz’s eastern province, the nominal head of the family - the Eminent Thropp, was the de-facto sole ruler of all of Munckinland.

Her Eminence, Nessarose Thropp led Munchkinland’s secession from loyal Oz, and consolidated her power, becoming the sole Eminence of Munchkinland, causing all the other family eminences to swear fealty. The Thropps were titled by their order in the line of succession to the Eminence, which is matrilineal. Thus, Elphaba Thropp at birth was titled "Elphaba of Rush Margins, Thropp Third Descending".

Despite most Munchkinlanders being short and stout, the Thropps, through selective breeding, were tall and slender, resembling the Gillikinese.
